Award Categories

At the inception, the Award identified five broad categories namely Pathfinders, Champions, Trail Blazers, Champions and as well as a Special Category, which fall under the following Award clusters:

➢ Art and Culture. (Music, Performing Arts)(Man & Woman)

➢ Inventions and Innovations(Man & Woman)

➢ Media and Communication (Audio- radio, television) (Man & Woman)

➢ Print and social media platform(Man & Woman)

➢ Social transformation(Man & Woman)

➢ Economic Transformation(Man & Woman)

➢ Governance and Political Transformation(Man & Woman)

➢ African/ American Men Of Excellence (Man)

➢ African/American Woman/ of Excellence (Woman)

➢ The ZM on Excellence in Journalism Award (Special Category)

The above categories have since been regrouped under six themes namely: The Pathfinders who have broken new ground, Champions of unchartered territories, Achievers in different fields, Trail Blazers in business, Philanthropy, Social and Gender Justice, Media, Communication and Journalism, the Year of Return as well as awardees that fall under the Special Category.
